Emma Byrne Goalkeeping Masterclass
GK masterclass with Emma Byrne
The sun was shining and the sky was bright blue with the faintest wisps of cloud. A perfect setting for an afternoon with one of the best goal keepers in the female game Emma Byrne (Republic of Ireland and Arsenal FC) and her goal keeping coach Alex Welsh from Arsenal FC.
The session, which took place at London Marathon Playing Fields Greenwich, was organised by the LPFF as part of its Female Coach Development project. FCD is a project that supports female coaches on their journey to become qualified Level 2 coaches by providing a structured mentoring system that supports coaches through the preparatory phase, the training course and the assessment.
The aim of the session was to provide female coaches with exposure to leading coaches within the game so that they can be inspired and informed. The session was open to anyone who was working or volunteering within the female game.
The audience comprised of coaches of different levels from a variety of clubs from grassroots to Centres of Excellence. All those attending were given a copy of the session plan and invited to watch a practical element on the pitch before a de-briefing and question and answer session.
The practical element concentrated on high crosses before the audience were invited inside where Emma Byrne fielded a variety of questions ranging from enquiries about the state of the women’s game to how she psychologically and physically prepares herself for a game.
The event was a great success and forms part of a series of maser classes taking place every quarter.
