Female Coach Development

In response to a disproportionate lack of female football coaches working at grassroots, the Foundation has created an imaginative coach development programme to ensure that more women qualify at FA Coaching Certificate Level 2. Research indicates that having more qualified female coaches will lead to more girls staying in the game.

The project involves enrolling trainee coaches on a mentoring programme that supports them through the process of training and assessment on the Level 2 course.

• Since the project started in October 2008 thirty four female coaches have completed the preparatory course.
• Twenty coaches have successfully completed their Level 2 course to date with a further thirteen candidates working towards this goal.
• Thirty three female coaches have been financially supported through their Level 1 course.
• Twenty female coaches have joined London Football Coaches Association which enables them to attend masterclass sessions and provides information on jobs and coaching roles.
• Kay Cossington, England Women’s U15 Coach and Emma Byrne, Arsenal and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, delivered female only masterclass sessions at LMPF, Greenwich.
