Girls'
Football Hub

Our Girls’ Football Hub project helps to increase the confidence and resilience of girls who are new to football and who have little game experience, with the aim of helping them to become regular participants.

Following the crowning of the Lionesses as Euro 2022 winners, we established a Girls’ and Women’s Legacy Group to canvass support on how the girls’ and women’s game could be supported in a coordinated manner.

As a facility provider we were in a unique position to develop links between the schools and clubs that use our sites to create opportunities for girls to stay engaged in football. We committed to continue to support school football festivals, tournaments and leagues at our grounds and after consultation with local clubs we launched the Girls’ Football Hub pilot project at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre during the 2024-25 season.

The project’s aim is to help all those involved in the girls’ game to derive maximum satisfaction from the experience so that their commitment continues. We will do that by:

• Building the confidence, skills and understanding of girls new to the game
• Providing a bridge between school and club football activity
• Providing the game with more female team managers
• Improving the quality of goalkeeping and specialist coaching
• Increasing the number of female referees
